The 2016 edition of the Haute Route kicks off 20th August in the Pyrenees. The route looks formidable. The following week (28th Aug – 3rd Sept), the event moves to the Alps and the start line in Nice. The route looks even more spectacular.
Then the week after that is into the Swiss Alps and the Italian dolomite’s for the final week. (5th Sept-11th Sept)
At the moment the plan is to do the 2017 version of the Alps leg, which will be similar in distance and elevation gain to this years route.
So far this year I have accumulated 7000km and 83,000m of climbing, so I am on track to reach the goal of 10,000km this year. Might need a bit more climbing though if I am to reach 150,000m
In July as well as completing the Marmotte and riding up Mont Ventoux (I didn’t have to run up like Chris Froome) I managed to achieve 1000km for the month. The goal for August is to push beyond that and hit 1250 for the month. During August and September I will be building up to hitting 500km in a week in a bid to develop the stamina required for multi-day riding.
So the training continues, got to start looking at what to do when the weather starts coming in. Need a good winter training plan for the turbo trainer.
